FAQs

How long does the process take?

Timelines can vary, but a motivated nurse can typically complete the entire process, from starting with us to receiving a job offer, in about 2 to 4 months depending on the province you are applying from, the state you are applying to and how quickly your university sends the required materials.

What if I graduated from a nursing program in Quebec?

The main difference is that you will likely need to pass an English language proficiency exam (like IELTS or TOEFL) for your CGFNS VisaScreen®. However, graduates from specific English-language programs (like McGill or Dawson College) may be exempt. We will provide precise guidance based on your school to make the process as smooth as possible.

Can my family come with me?

Absolutely. Your spouse and unmarried children under 21 are eligible for TD (Trade Dependent) status, which allows them to live with you in the U.S. and attend school. Our legal team will guide you on the simple documentation needed for your family's application.

How much does this cost? How do you make money?

Our guidance, placement, and legal support services are 100% free for you. We are compensated by U.S. employers who pay a fee to hire talented nurses through our platform. You will only need to pay for mandatory third-party application fees (e.g., CGFNS VisaScreen®, state license).

What is the TN visa process?

The TN visa is the fastest, most direct pathway for Canadian RNs. Here's how it works with True North: Once you accept a job offer, our in-house immigration legal team helps you prepare your entire visa package, including the critical employer support letter. We ensure everything is perfect. You simply take this pre-vetted package to a U.S. port of entry (airport or land border) where you can get your TN status on the spot. No lengthy embassy waits.

What support do you offer after I get the job?

Our support doesn't stop at the border. We provide a comprehensive arrival guide covering essential first steps like applying for your Social Security Number, opening a U.S. bank account, getting a driver's license, and other tips to help you and your family settle into your new community smoothly.
